Cheyenne Again by Eve Bunting literature response by kate

Have you ever been SOO miserable you ran away? Well young bull has!
Cheyenne Again is about a boy named young bull and this man comes to his tribe, the Cheyenne and says he has to go to school. When he goes to school they make him shave his braids and make him wear a uniform instead of the clothes his mother made him.He is forced to learn the english language. He has to read and write in english and they make him learn all about america's history and nothing about his culture. Then he runs awayand they find him so they put chains on his leg.So then he draws a picture of two men soaring through the plains on their horses. He pretends that the men are him and his father soaring through the plains, and then he thinks Cheyenne Again.
Eve Bunting wrote this book because she wants to teach me that change can be good but we should no forget our culture.I think this becuase going to school can help you get a good job but the teachers were only teaching him about america's history, not about his history.
Eve uses alot of powerful words in her books. In Cheyenne Again she used "greasy grass". She could have just said grass, but she said "greasy grass". That helped me picture a prairie and it just rained on the grass. she also used "ashen sky" she could have just said blue, but she said "ashen sky". That helped me picture the sky after there was a fire.
I really enjoyed the book "Cheyenne Again". I liked it because I have always really liked the indein culture. another reason is becuase Eve made me feel bad for young bull becuase they put chains on his legs and he had so many sores and burns on his feet. THE END!!!!!!!!!
